Rotule Downhillin'

On a 100% chance encounter via a website called couchsurfing.com and a few friendly neighborhood friends of mine, we met a crew of like-minded builders, who are downhill longboarders. They have a DH skate company in Quebec, Canada and are on a road trip from there, across the US to San Diego and all the way back, around the edges and through the middle of the country to sample America's finest in curvy and steep stretches of pavement.

RotuleLongboards.com is their site, we got to take them into the mountains yesterday to have a little go at some turns that had stuck in our minds as particularly intense on a recent drive north...Much more to come, Kent and I shot for 4 hours plus, but here's a small sample from the day.

These guys were charging full slides at 40mph...
We drove behind them down the mountain for this last one.

Miles Jackler and Jonny's Nova Rito.

Trevor, Jason, Herbie.

I really enjoy lugging my camera around with the guys when we go check the surf or just hang out and play music...The moments are just too priceless right now and I'm soaking it all in.

Friends make the world go round.

Trevor and I sat down and devised a new shred sled for his recent and upcoming travels on his Patagonia testing missions.

She's 5'6 x 19" x 2 1/4" and EPS/Epoxy, built for solid waves, steep rivermouths and reefs especially. Its a very compact little fish template with a pulled in nose, very light triplane bottom and an upside down vee leading into the fins and out the tail...Her name is the Fus.h

Already got some very productive testing in, too :)

Craggs and Flags

There's a weird divide somewhere just north of LA.  It becomes just a little more...how to say...mysterious.

I get a little jealous of the material that the guys down south can produce with all the talent, boards, waves and knowledge thats down there...then Connor and I flip through the volumes of photos of secret sessions and sunset solos that we keep to ourselves and our friends and it fades away.

fast.

Itching For Some...

These guys do it SO right...attitude, shred level, flex, speed, fun, perfect.

Just Did It

Spencer Lyon on one of his creations...A lot of people have asked me for a while why I haven't gotten into alaias; I've been waiting to do it the right way, with someone who has put in the time and effort that I couldn't.

Spence fits the bill.

more photos coming shortly...hold yer horsies.

Southward

Two new boards located at Wetsand Surf Shop in Ventura now...

This purple-hazey AsymmetricHull

and this supernuggety little 6'3" hullstub...hull to big single concave out the tail; lots of drive and tons of acceleration for big carves.

Chuck and crew down there do an insane job of spreading PCpelican stoke around the area...Boards seem to go through there like nobodies business so go check these out if you feel the urge!
