Gregg Tally [of White Owl Surfboards] asked me to build him an Evening Star while I inhabit his shop/during the sorting of my new space...so I did:

8'6" x 22" x 3"

I've been really into circular deck patches lately, especially on a few boards in particular...This one didn't quite dodge my obsession...

The triple stringer blank is from US Blanks, which came out oh-so-sweet. And I couldn't help but polish her all the way out after getting all burnt-tangerine with the resin...I'm proud to have made this for Gregg. It's been a humbling experience being able to fling my resin and foam dust around his shop and I'm more than happy to have shaped and glassed this board start to finish, so here's to 100% hand built products:

Happy tuesday everyone!

I wanted to send out a thank you to everyone who commented, shared and cared about my mini-essay on hand shaping so far. I was a bit hesitant to share it because surfers tend to be a bit ehem, sensitive, but the response has made my heart all warm and fuzzy.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of shaping two boards for Gregg Tally, one of Santa Barbara's fewest and finest surfer/shapers. He's been letting me sneak around his shop and make a few boards between projects. When he asked me a few days ago to shape him a pair of boards as a trade for my time there, I was floored.

I spent the better part of yesterday shaping those two boards while Gregg watched on from the doorway, and I'm proud that step one on each board was penciling out a template and grabbing a hand saw. Foam dust flew for the next few hours and what came out are two boards that have a story, a feeling and a life, before even being glassed.

Yep, I got a case of the mondays :)

...At it, here's Kew's new 5'3 t.rev, also heading for a remote corner of the India Ocean in the next handful of days...Good luck campers, may the tube god's be with you...

(Tank the cat, shortly after sniffing and deeming worthy, pissed all over the tail of the board, claiming it for his own. We were humbled and I was beyond honored. Thanks Tank.)
