Adler'd

Will Adler came by the shop while Trevor and I brainstormed and shaped a new project that is keeping us both very, VERY entertained at the moment...Will shot this first one with a huge panoramic film camera:

I always have to laugh a little when people timidly ask if it's okay that they come into the shaping room while I'm mid-board or if they'd be in my way...I've USUALLY got more than my fair share of company hanging out...

New Ones In France!

Just wanted to drop a little line out there and let people know the boards for Wallako Surf Shop in Bidart, France have arrived safely and are ready for fondling!
So if you're near there, go check 'em out and say hi to the for me!!!

er

I have this folder in my computer called 'Friends' that I thumb through periodically to find a blog post out of; sometimes I come up with nothing interesting, and others, it works out nicely...
The past few months have taught me a lot about what I thought I already knew about life and friends; Friends are good, so have them, right? nope. Friends fvcking RULE. Our first "opening day swell" is upon us and has been for a few days and my god its good to see everyone in the water instead of in Taco Bell.
Maybe it sounds a little p00s, but I bask in the presence of my friends. This year is starting off with a bang and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

Projectz

working on a new project with Will Adler and Trevor Gordon, little bit of this, little bit of that...
I'm stoked that the whole asym. thing isn't weirding SO many people out these days, I've been working on extremely varried tail shapes and fin setups for a little over a year now and have always been a little shy about 'em...I'm stoked on the new revelations!

Creationistic

Nick Cook photographed the drawing of a modified PC logo a couple months ago, we got a lot of good work done that afternoon but this logo didn't make the final cut :(

FLexin's

Cheyne's flex spoon v.2 in progress...slated to be done for his road trip through the northern areas of our state later this month!
This is the first spoon I've pulled out of the new mold for this particular model; I'm super stoked on how clean its all coming together for the first run; the pour foam even behaved itself this time and came out flawlessly.

Cool People Vol.1

So I spent some time in Santa Cruz the past few weeks and got a chance to hang out with a guy I've always wanted to chat with more but never had time to at the trade shows; Nick Palandrani of Source Surfboards.

WAIT you say, plugging other peoples shred sleds on your own blog?

YES i say! because he is that cool, and his boards are mental.

Onwards.
Nick has been shaping for centuries, and he's only 33.
Seriously give his site a look through, and if you can peep any of his boards in person you would be very pleased.

Graceland

How is it when you feel like you have life figured out, that you somehow don't have any idea?
Today feels like this.

The Jam

Kyle Lightner surfing the day, and the board, that changed what I thought knew about trim.

shortly thereafter all of us took the money and ran...without any money.

Most of the time I'm looking for a fast forward button to see what the future holds, but not now, and not at all that winter.

Inspiration

Always finds me in very odd forms, but this one I understand. I have a few role models in life and the way I TRY to conduct myself...Herbie is in the top two and I don't see that ever changing.

FFWD

I'm pretty constantly mesmerized by the way hulls move through water; every curve and every line is optimized and planned to create as much speed as the wave will give...efficiency is the name of the game and to get it you don't have to sacrifice anything in terms of how 'extreme' a shape is; You just have to understand what it's meant to do and enjoy the simplicity.

If you've ridden these boards you understand what this video is showing, it looks boring but the sensation and fluidity is quite a different story.

Good'ol Days

Will I grow out of it, or will it seep it's way into my core, more and more?

G.Kaut

Geek out on G.Kautz' sack...er...sacks....

Garrett is a rad friend of mine and he makes super clean board bags and other bag-like things to protect your sleds. He happens to be able to match any of my templates and make custom socks for boards that I build, so if you want one, check him out and send him a friendly email!

btw; you can snag one online or dirt cheap...

Ooooohsnap.

Wavegliders....Nico and Carlos.
f*ing unreal work.

So much love for these guys its stupid, they did an incredible job glassing all of my shapes and showed me so much hospitality. They're the first people i've really trusted to handle my glassing and they surely didn't disappoint!

If you're a shaper and you get an email from Rui at Magic Quiver, just say yes.

RedSpooned

Photo: M.Barreira

While I was at the Wavegliders factory in Portugal, I built one spoon and tried my best to pass on some knowledge of the craft to Nico and Carlos...They did the finish work on it after I left and delivered it to her owner, Miguel; who just sent me this photo...whoooaoaoa!

SURF Portugal

Miguel Barreira shot this of me and the spoon that Waveglider's very talented Nico and I made him while I was in Portugal.
SURF Portugal also ran this other feature just after I left, the translation is on the way, hopefully they wrote nice things!

Light My Fire

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall kinds of mischief this week...shaped some TransitionHulls like the one below...and SoloMan got nutty with some colors for you guys:

Shaped a couple Stage III's with regular foam/resins, just with a hefty flex tail that'll be filled with EVA foam...

The shaping bay turned into a PC candy shop for a few days:

and then things got even more fun........

Oh the beauty of hand shaping and working closely with your boards...super glad I haven't gone down the machine path like so many, because.......

It's a good week for surfboards.
